Solar Village Project

Their need:

In India, millions of people still live in energy poverty, where access to electricity is unreliable or nonexistent. In rural schools like Harigovind Shukla Nirmala Devi Public School, this means more than just occasional blackouts. Learning is constantly interrupted, teachers cannot rely on modern teaching tools, and communities are left disconnected from information and opportunities that could improve their livelihoods.

Before July 2024, Harigovind Shukla Nirmala Devi Public School in rural Uttar Pradesh faced a daily struggle that many urban schools never experience—crippling power outages. On hot afternoons, classrooms turned into stifling ovens as ceiling fans sat idle. Teachers often abandoned digital learning tools in frustration, unable to power even the most basic educational equipment. Exams were disrupted, lessons cut short, and students were left to learn in a challenging, unpredictable environment.

For over 260 students and their teachers, the lack of reliable electricity wasn’t just an inconvenience—it was a barrier to progress. But that changed when IREM Foundation partnered with Solar Village Project to bring a 2kW energy system to the school. What followed was nothing short of transformational.

Our gift:

IREM Foundation’s grant funded the installation of solar panels, battery backups, an inverter, and a remote data logger at Harigovind Shukla Nirmala Devi Public School, carefully positioning each component to maximize efficiency and longevity.

What was once a school struggling against the elements is now a thriving institution, empowering children to dream bigger, teachers to educate better, and communities to believe in a brighter, sustainable future.
